Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, quiet town. Many people who don't know they mistakenly believe it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact, the West Island includes everything westward from the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently mentioned, but her brief stay was not. Brugel developed on Courtice located just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. At the beginning of her life she hoped to become the next big thing in her career, but a sudden expansion of her body made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." When I surpassed the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice from her drama teacher in high school who pushed her in the direction she needed. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel's been involved in more than 60 shows, smaller and large. The most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale, a series that was produced over the course of ten years.
